I have just seen the recall on the chicken jerkey treats. My dogs (lab mix, and italian greyhound) love the waggin brand chicken jerkey. i lost my samson, also an italian greyhound, last fall...the vets werent sure of the cause and had i known about all of this i would have requested an autopsy. Where can i find a list of safe foods to feed my animals. Each day, there seems to be more and more food added to the list. They also eat the ol' roy dinner rounds. Does anyone know if either of these, the food or treats, is recalled? Thanks!!

Helene, thank you so much for being such a caring soul for animals, and for teaching your children and grandchildren to care for them, too! I am sorry to hear of your sad losses, and I share in your frustration and confusion as to who we believe and what we should eat. So incredible that this situation is STILL going on, eight weeks after the initial Menu Foods recall...sigh.

I have gone thru enough agony because of the pet food contamination. I lost 4 cats and saved one. Thanks to my vet at Hollywood animal hospital. She saved my Blackie. My others were not so lucky. One died in my arms after eating the iams 3oz can. I gave the finiky ones iams. Who knew. The iams people got in touch with me and the lady was so sorry to hear of my loss. She was very nice but I had to go thru the agony all over again explaining what happened. My animals are my life as I raised my children who are all like me and love animals. My Granchildren are the same. Growing up with pets taught them kindness and loving of all living creatures. They helped me raise the little birds that fell from the nest. They would bring them home to mommy as they knew they would live. How many children can say they had a sparrow on their finger or a robin, bluejay, etc. I still feed all the birds and the stray cats that I could not tame. They are all fixed as I trapped them and off to the vet we went. My dogs died and at 78 I did not replace them. The cats have a haven here as they have their space and mine. They have their own outside run where they have the sun. It is all closed in with chain link top sides etc. It measures 12 by 25 feet. My screen room is 12 by 36 which is all theirs also. I worked hard to be able to have all this. I lost one outside cat. She only ate the canned food. I was also feeding the special kitty 3 oz and 5oz and 12 oz cans to them. I fed them iams dry kitten and catfood as I have older cats with teeth problems. Who would ever suspect this much contamination? The Fda is very vague on the situation. I just read their last report. We will not really know anything till the fall. Meanwhile I am buying chickens and cooking. Now its in the chicken feed and hogs were fed the pet food. What do we eat? Next it will be the cows. They already determined the fish were contaminated also. What else is knew. We pay the farmers not to plant the wheat as we have a surplus. Why are we importing from China? All these questions did not come up in the forum the FDA set up. A heartbroken Pet Owner

I can't believe all of this fuss about dogfood. Dogs have survived thousands of years on regular food. Dogfood is purely a marketing ploy, making you think that is the only way to feed your dog (complex nutritional needs ect..) Why hunt for brands? Feed your dog right from the grocery store, do a little research and your all set. Sure dogs are allergic to some foods..but not enough that it doesn't take but a minute to get thier food ready in the morning. Feed your pets homemade food and you will not have to worry and fret so much about this brand and that brand...

Lori, the only thing I've heard about Berkley & Jensen is the recall of pig ear dog treats due to possible salmonella contamination. And that was a recall entirely separate from the Menu Foods recall. That being said, the Menu Foods recall lists DO continue to expand all the time, so it's good that you're staying on top of it. I'll keep checking, but as of now I don't see anything about Berkley & Jensen cat food being recalled.

Wow this pet food recall just keeps getting worse. There are so many sad stories connected to this recall. The shame of it all is it could have been prevented! If you are still confused as to what pet food is safe for your beloved companion animals PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! go to my website and check out the video. www.pamperedpetzone.com It gives in great detail the history and the manufacturing process of pet food. I got involved with this company for one reason. They care about pets. My animals are thriving on Life's Abundance. Their food is fromulated by a world renowned veterinarian who makes herself available to answer all of your questions every Thursday evening via a live national conference call. The have no wheat, corn, soy, chemicals, or preservatives in their food. The company also offers a non-profit (for rescuers and shelters FREE) and kennel/breeder DISCOUNT program. IT'S A GREAT PROGRAM I don’t know if anybody even knew you could get a program like this with premium foods. I would love to tell you that I'm getting rich by representing this food but the truth is, I'm a starving graphic desinger who just happens to love her pets and who is on a crusade to help others protect theirs!
Good Luck

Ann, I hope things turned out okay for Sugar...let us know, okay?

What a sad story, Judy, but what wonderful memories you have of Varmit. Isn't it amazing how such special animals come into our lives and add so much to them? Varmit was very lucky to have you as an owner.

I'll have to check out Pampered Pet Zone. Thanks Vicki and Catherine.
