We could ALL stand to learn a lesson or two from the incredibly cool, incredibly gifted, and incredibly charitable Paul Newman, who passed away last night at the age of 83. Please take the time to watch the following four-minute video and take away some impression or thought that you’ll then turn around and use in your life–TODAY!
RIP, Paul Newman, and thank you for ALL you have given us via your acting, but most especially through the various charitable acts and organization, Newman’s Own, which has benefited countless individuals AND animals.
“What could be better than to hold your hand out to people who are less fortunate than you? That’s simply how I look at it.” ~Paul Newman
From the Newman’s Own web site:
- About Newman’s Own, Inc.
Newman’s Own®, Inc., founded on a lark by Paul Newman and his buddy A.E. Hotchner in 1982, is now (to our own surprise!), a leading (and growing) premium food company that offers more than 150 varieties of delicious all-natural food and beverage products. Based in Westport, CT, the charitable mission of Newman’s Own is expressed in its Company motto: “Shameless exploitation in pursuit of the Common Good.” Paul Newman and the Newman’s Own Foundation donate all profits and royalties after taxes for educational and charitable purposes. Paul Newman and the Newman’s Own Foundation have given more than $250 million to thousands of charities worldwide.
We’re ALL pro-life, it’s just that some of you are ANTI-choice. People, PLEASE stop for a moment, put aside the anger/frustration/confusion, clear your head and seriously and thoughfully think about the ramifications of your vote for the McCain/Palin ticket, upon your mothers, daughters, sisters and friends. Don’t be complacent and think the status quo shall remain the same–it can change in a heartbeat, it can change in an election.
Once again, I’m sending major thanks out to the Randi Rhodes MySpace page for posting this video of tonight’s SNL show featuring this fantastically nailed performance by Tina Fey as Sarah Palin, and Amy Poehler as Hillary Clinton. Best line of the skit (and there were many) was Poehler/Clinton saying, “In conclusion, I invite the media to grow a pair, and if you can’t I will lend you mine.” (Heck, I’ll loan them mine if they’ll step up their pressure on getting to the truth. ;)) Enjoy the video!
***Added 9/14/08: Well, it looks like NBC Universal pulled a copyright claim (yes, I know, it’s their right, their property, but…) on all the SNL videos that were posted to YouTube last night. I hope those of you who headed over here to see it DID get to see it before they were pulled down. Here’s the SNL web site link to the video where you get to sit through a commercial before watching the skit. Upside is that it’s high quality and fairly large. I think I’ve watched the skit about 10 times now, and find something new each time. I don’t think Fey and Poehler could have possibly done a better job than they did, with their impeccable timing, nuanced looks, and overall out Palining and Clintoning the actual women! 😉
And for those of you wondering what the heck flerg, flirg (or however you want to spell it) means, here’s what I found, but take it all with a grain of salt, or with… (shame on me ;)).
Again, enjoy the video!
Say it ain’t so, folks–ANOTHER pet food recall?!?! Hopefully this one is contained and resolved quickly, and nothing close to the hell far too many pet owners went through with the intial Menu Foods, China-related chaos 18 months ago, which blossomed into a full-blown disaster. Appears to be several pet foods involved (products and UPCs listed below) made by Mars Petcare US at their Everson, PA facility, and is salmonella-related. (Added: Salmonella recalls seem to be a recurring theme with Mars Petcare. I posted this recall for the same thing in August of 2007…sigh.) Do heed this recall notice precautionary warning for humans: Salmonella can cause serious infections in dogs and cats, and, if there is cross contamination caused by handling of the pet food, in people as well, especially children, the aged, and people with compromised immune systems. DemRapidResponse posting this morning brought me this. Thank goodness they find all the good stuff because I just don’t have the time to. Pass it along, please!
McCain Lies About Reformer Credentials
- McCain on The View lies about reformer credentials, also claims that Sarah Palin didn’t ask for earmarks as Governor. In fact she took almost $500 million dollars as earmarks Governor. Read the rest of this entry »
Eve Ensler, the American playwright, performer, feminist and activist best known for “The Vagina Monologues”, wrote the following about Sarah Palin.
Drill Drill Drill
I am having Sarah Palin nightmares.
I dreamt last night that she was a member of a club where they rode snowmobiles and wore the claws of drowned and starved polar bears around their necks. I have a particular thing for Polar Bears. Read the rest of this entry »
“She (Sarah Palin) will do interviews, but she’ll do them on the terms and conditions of which the campaign decides it’s ready to do it.”
~Rick Davis, Campaign Manager for McCain
Could someone pinch me because I’m not quite sure if I’m awake, experiencing a continuation of the eight year nightmare we’ve all been living through, watching a bad extended Saturday Night Live skit (complete with Tina Fey look-a-like, Sarah Palin, although Tina’s actually pretty),or being subjected to a really twisted Republican version a Stepford Wives flick (rip back Rick Davis’ face and I swear you’ll find a bunch of wires)! Who ON EARTH (well, other than Sarah Palin and the McCain campaign) thinks that it is even remotely okay for someone who could possibly have to step in as leader of the free world, to NOT be available to America’s link/access to the truth–the media?! MySpace Democrats just posted a bulletin with a great video from an organization I was previously unfamiliar with, truthandhope.org, but one of which I’m now a fan. This video does a fantastic job of pointing out the important history of community organizing Sarah Failin’ Palin and other GOP folks disgustingly mocked at their liars convention last week. THANKFULLY someone is out there responding to the BS the repugs, I mean repubs, are dishing out; BS which, sadly, folks with no interest in discovering the truth are lapping up. Truthandhope.org needs help getting this ad on TV, so if you can muster up some dinero, please help them out. Just click on this link to find out more.
Man, oh man, oh man, do I ever LOVE Jon Stewart!!! This clip is one of his best–enjoy!
(Seems the first video was taken down, so here’s another. You can click on the Jon Stewart link I posted above to take you to the Comedy Central site video. WordPress won’t allow videos from there to be embedded here.)
Saw the “oops, did I say that?” clip I’m posting below, earlier when Randi Rhodes sent it out, but an email from MoveOn actually has the transcript which makes it all even better! It’s a delightfully juicy tidbit for me since I had actually been watching the MSNBC interview Chuck Todd was having with Mike Murphy and Peggy Noonan when it ran live, so now this bonus ‘after the fact’ snafu makes it much more enjoyable. Grab the popcorn, folks. And Jesse Jackson must be glad to see the ‘hot mic’ video/audio works both ways. (Sidenote: Did anyone else see the sign someone was holding in the crowd during MSNBC coverage that said “Your blunder war is showing“? Hi-lar-i-ous!)
I would write more, but I’m too nauseated after watching moron Mitt Romney spewing forth one idiotic comment after another during his RNC speech. (We sure dodged a bullet on THAT one–hope we continue to.) Off I go to watch Mike Huckabee speak. I should probably grab some pliers on the way since I’m sure he’ll need some help getting his foot out of his mouth from his usual inappropriate attempts at humor. (Oooh, speaking of humor, click here for a funny take on Peggy Noonan’s blunder.) Read the rest of this entry »
Seriously, folks? THIS is who you want engaging in discussions on national security issues (even remotely), let alone living in OUR White House? Someone whose response to Palin’s lack of national security experience is that we all remember that Alaska is the closest part of “our” continent to Russia. (I think Canada and Central and South America might want to lay claim to the continent, too, Cindy!) Say what? Closeness to Russia constitutes experience?! Well since I’m part Russian/German/Finnish/Polish I guess her warped logic really gives me an in, with an appointment to Secretary of State in my future under a McCain presidency? ARGH!
When (if) you vote for John McCain, you get the baggage that is his wife, sort of like marrying into your spouse’s family. Of course worse than having Cindy Read the rest of this entry »
